ArmInfo. There is simply no such separate issue on the agenda of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations as a connection between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated on May 24 during the government hour in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, this is the issue that fits into the project of opening all transport and economic ties in the region. Within the framework of this project, the Republic of Armenia is ready to provide this communication. "We are committed to open the communications of the region under the terms of reciprocity, which we are ready to do," Pashinyan said, pointing out ideas for the creation of new infrastructures. He noted that the Republic of Armenia has no obligation to establish such a route, but it is ready to consider this option. This will happen if there are signs of regional integration, peace, mutual benefit. Against this background, the country will really be able to overcome the blockade, maintaining its sovereignty over the roads through which those roads will pass. We are talking about the communications stipulated in point 9 of the tripartite statement of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan of November 9, 2020.
Armenia, according to Pashinyan, was ready to build a road on signs of mutual benefit, but when it came to the legal formalization of the agreement, Azerbaijan, for unknown reasons, refused to sign the document. An attempt is now being made to resolve this issue.
Pashinyan denied claims by some political forces in Armenia that, in accordance with the tripartite statement, he promised to build a corridor linking Azerbaijan with its enclave in Nakhichevan. "I want to declare with full responsibility that I have never promised anyone a corridor through the territory of Armenia, and I can prove it," the head of the Armenian government said.
