ArmInfo.Today we are faced with a choice, our thoughts and hearts collide, due to the fact that the task of protecting the interests of the state represented by the Republic of Armenia is not consistent with the national interests and algorithms of the Armenian world. This idea was expressed in an interview with the media by a well-known Armenian businessman, member of parliament, member of the ruling political team, head of the United Labor Party of Armenia Gurgen Arsenyan.
Asenyan declared his full support for the policies pursued by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, including on the peace agenda. "With both hands I will defend the peace agenda, which will lead to the mutual recognition by Armenia and Azerbaijan of the territorial integrity of those territorial coordinates that were adopted in 1991 by the CIS countries (Almaty Declaration, ed. note).
The MP expressed the opinion that, unlike the state interests, which are within the competence of Armenian politicians and their area of responsibility, the complex of national interests is more connected with numerous external factors that the state is not able to influence today. "And we often do not understand where and how these factors manifest themselves, where these flows come from and what they are connected with, including which foreign special services.
"Yes, our compatriots live in Artsakh, but they also live in Javakhk, in Beirut, in Glendale, and in Australia, and our task is to look after the interests of our state, protect it, ensure the safety of our residents," said Arsenyan, noting that this is the primary task today, the task that should be the main goal of the political leadership of the country, and all other issues only follow from this agenda. <I am not going to dispute the fact that such a policy can lead to difficulties for our compatriots in Artsakh. We understand this, therefore, during the negotiations, our politicians raise the issue of guarantees related to the safety of the life of our compatriots, their fundamental rights. Despite the fact that the leadership of Azerbaijan has not yet taken any steps in this direction, however, I believe that it thereby increases pressure in order to strengthen its negotiating positions>, Arsenyan said.
He reminded journalists that politics is the art of the possible, including speaking about the unfulfilled election promises of the Pashinyan political team to de-occupy some parts of Hadrut and Shushi, noting that the issue of the return of the inhabitants of these territories is also a subject of negotiations. <What is happening is a reality and this reality cannot be ignored. We must distance ourselves from adventurism and abandon processes that could lead to tragic consequences for Armenia," Arsenyan believes.
He stressed that the Republic of Armenia is the only Armenian state and no politician has the right to jeopardize this existence in the presence of asymmetric threats. "We must understand that our neighbors are not the Netherlands or Luxenburg, and no matter how difficult it is for us, we must find opportunities for peaceful coexistence with them," Arsenyan noted.
