ArmInfo.Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Leo Docherty, Under Secretary of State for Europe of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, discussed the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to the press service of the Prime Minister, at a meeting with Docherty, Pashinyan welcomed his visit to Armenia and stressed the importance of close cooperation and development of interaction with the United Kingdom in various fields. He expressed confidence that bilateral relations have great potential for development.
Leo Docherty noted that the start of a strategic dialogue with Armenia has already been announced and added that they are interested in expanding ties in various areas.
In particular, issues of trade and economic cooperation, the possibility of implementing programs in solar energy and other areas were discussed. Nikol Pashinyan added that the government of the Republic of Armenia is interested in attracting British investors to the Armenian market.
They also touched upon the process of settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the issues of unblocking the regional transport and economic infrastructure, the delimitation of the border and ensuring the security of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the situation around Nagorno- Karabakh, in particular, the humanitarian crisis that arose in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, and the issue of introducing a mechanism for international dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert.
The prime minister noted that the goal of Azerbaijan's policy is not only the closing of the corridor, but also the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno Karabakh Armenians by depriving the population of Nagorno Karabakh of gas and electricity.
