ArmInfo.Armenia is committed to building a long-term, stable and dignified peace in the South Caucasus. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated on May 22 at a joint press conference with Under Secretary of State for Europe of UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Leo Docherty, in response to a request to provide details of Moscow negotiations with his Azerbaijani counterpart.
According to him, Armenia, in turn, is very constructively involved in the negotiation process, in line with the above-mentioned peace vector. " For obvious reasons, Armenia cannot take these constructive steps alone. They should be mutual. And if there is reciprocity, they can really become the basis for long-term peace," he said.
At the same time, Mirzoyan added that he would summarize the results of the intensive negotiations of the last period (Washington, Brussels), and not only those of Moscow. "I would like to say that progress was also made in Washington, as two more points of the draft peace project were agreed upon. And on several points it became possible to conduct a direct and long dialogue. And I can say that during this dialogue the parties also began to better understand each other's concerns and intentions," the Armenian minister said, adding that he was talking about this, since it is likely to reach agreements on these points. At the same time, Mirzoyan admitted that there are points on which the positions of the parties are far from each other. He clarified that these are the points concerning the most difficult issues. "It is fundamental for Armenia to clarify the issue of delimitation, which I have spoken about before," the Armenian Foreign Minister said.
At the same time, the minister admitted that the positions of the parties on the issue of opening transport and economic communications are probably the closest ones and the position of the RA has not changed. "Armenia is ready and interested in opening regional communications, and in our view, this should take place on the principle of respect for sovereignty, reciprocity and equality of the parties," he said, noting the attractiveness of these communications from an international, and not only a regional, point of view. In conclusion, Mirzoyan stressed that negotiations are taking place on a number of other spectrums. It should be noted that in May this year, several meetings were held between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the process of normalizing Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. They were held under the auspices of Washington, Brussels, and then Moscow.
