ArmInfo.Armenia cannot afford to be subject to Western sanctions because of its relationship with Russia. On May 22, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press conference.
He noted that in contacts with Western partners, the issue of anti-Russian sanctions is a constant subject of discussion. The same issue is also on the agenda of the Armenian-Russian relations.
"Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, Yerevan is connected with Moscow by strategic partnership relations, Russia is one of the largest trade and economic partners of Armenia, but our country cannot afford to be under Western sanctions. Consequently, our relations with the Russian Federation will be carried out to the extent that the republic will be able to avoid sanctions>, the head of government said, adding that Armenia does not have serious resources to resist these sanctions, because in this case, nothing good will happen to any of the allies of the Republic of Armenia. In addition, relations with Western countries will be worsened. In order to avoid such a development of events, appropriate instructions were given and are being given. Work is underway with Western partners, because in some cases it is possible to violate sanctions through negligence.
Pashinyan noted that relations with Tehran are no less important for Yerevan, against which sanctions are still applied, and Armenia adheres to these sanctions.
