ArmInfo. Public and political figure, former State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh Ruben Vardanyan gave an online interview to a group of leading media representatives of Argentina, talking about the situation in Artsakh and the real goals of Azerbaijan towards Artsakh, the ongoing blockade and pressure.
"For about 5 months, 120,000 people live in Artsakh under blockade conditions. Azerbaijan seeks to ethnically cleanse Artsakh, forcing us to leave our homeland where we have lived for millennia. But, despite all the threats and difficulties, we do not intend to leave our home, and we are proud that we live here, where the heritage of generations of Armenians, the roots of Armenianism are visible everywhere. We are fighting for our right to live on our land and, unlike Azerbaijan, we are not going to attack anyone>, Ruben Vardanyan said.
Answering a question about the possibility of signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, he noted that he does not believe in a peace agreement if it is only on paper and does not reflect the situation on the ground. <How can a real and long-term peace agreement be imagined in a situation where one side believes that by right of the winner, concessions should be knocked out of the other side by all possible means, when Azerbaijan continues to violate the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020, when Azerbaijan ignores the decisions of all international organizations and courts>, the ex-state minister said.
He added that no decision on Artsakh can be made without the participation of the people of Artsakh, without taking into account the opinion of the people of Artsakh. Touching upon the question of how the Diaspora can help Artsakh at the moment, Vardanyan noted that it is important for the people of Artsakh to feel that they are not alone. <My call to the Diaspora is not to be indifferent. The people in Artsakh are very strong, but they must feel the support of all of us," Ruben Vardanyan said.
