ArmInfo. There is no alternative to the agreements reached by the Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijan leaders, stated Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin.
In this context, he recalled the hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone in 2020 were stopped by Russia and due to Russian President Vladimir Putin's efforts.
Russia and the Russian leader personally greatly contributed to the trilateral agreements and to the ensuing actions. As before, Russia is ready to contribute to the peace process, Mr Kopirkin told CivilNet.
According to him, the West is pursuing a policy of inflicting "a strategic defeat" on Russia, including by pressing its close allies. It is not Russia that is the cause of geopolitical rivalry and confrontation in the region. Russia's approach is assisting the parties in normalizing their relations, but it is up to the parties to work up the solutions. Russia is building its relations with its partners showing respect for their sovereignty. Of fundamental importance is progress in Armenia-Azerbaijani normalization process, Mr Kopirkin said.
In commenting on the situation round Artsakh, he said that the Russian peacekeeping troops are performing their tasks and solving problems "on the ground." Russia is not indifferent to the Artsakh Armenians' destiny, the diplomat said.
As to the CSTO, Mr Kopirkin recalled it stated its willingness to dispatch a mission to Armenia.
Both Armenia and Azerbaijan are facing a difficult situation, but Russia is serious about its allied commitments, the Russian diplomat said.
