ArmInfo. Armenian air carriers cannot fly through Turkish airspace, which creates problems for our citizens. Sargis Khandanyan, Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, stated this during a May 4 briefing in the Parliament.
Stressing that it is necessary to make efforts to resolve the situation, the MP said that this issue will be raised by Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan at a meeting his Turkish counterpart during his visit to Turkey.
On April 29, Turkey closed its airspace for flights of the Armenian airline Flyone Armenia to Europe without warning. According to the head of the board of directors of the air carrier Aram Ananyan, for unknown reasons and without any apparent reason, the Turkish aviation authorities, without prior notice, canceled the permission previously issued to Flyone Armenia to operate flights to Europe through Turkish airspace. The airline's Paris-Yerevan flight was forced to land in Chisinau, and on the night of April 30 alone it landed at the Zvartnots airport.
Later, the Turkish side, represented by Foreign Minister Cavusoglu, stated that Turkey had closed the sky for Armenian planes "in response to a provocation in Yerevan", namely the opening of a monument to the participants in Nemesis Operation in the Armenian capital.
This is not the first time this has happened. A year earlier, in May 2022, the Turkish aviation authorities did not provide FLYONE ARMENIA with the overflight opportunity to to European countries through its airspace. In view of the created situation, the airline was forced to cancel flights in the direction of Yerevan-Lyon-Yerevan and Yerevan-Paris-Yerevan until June 10.
