ArmInfo. None of the leaders or parliaments of Armenia have held such deep and comprehensive discussions on the problems in the country, as the current RA authorities do. On May 4, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Grigor Minasyan stated to journalists.
He noted that this is the second time he has witnessed deep, open and inclusive discussions during the Government Hour in parliament of the country, which has never happened before.
Answering the journalists' question whether Armenia intends to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, the minister recalled that the RA Constitutional Court recognized the terms of the agreement as not contradicting the provisions of the country's Basic Law. At present, there is a three-month period during which the document will be sent to the RA National Assembly. <There is a large package that needs some work. The process is proceeding normally and on time>, Minasyan said, considering it possible to ratify this document, at the same time pointing out the priority of the legislative body on this issue.
It should be reminded that Armenia signed the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court on October 1, 1999, but did not ratify it. The process was interrupted by the decision of the Constitutional Court of August 13, 2004, by which the Rome document was declared contrary to the 1995 Constitution. Considering that since then the Constitution has changed twice, the government of Nikol Pashinyan decided to resume the process of ratifying the international treaty and, for this purpose, once again apply to the Constitutional Court. At the end of 2022, the Armenian government initiated the process of ratifying the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. On December 29 last year, Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan stated at a government meeting that the relevance of the issue is due to the facts of large-scale military aggression of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and the occupation of its territories.
