Azerbaijan puts forward another set of demands to Armenia

ArmInfo.Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Yashar Aliyev at the debates in the Security Council, speaking for the Non-Aligned Movement, said the strict observance of the principles of international law and the fulfilment of the obligations assumed by States, in accordance with the Charter, are of the greatest importance for the maintenance of international peace and security.

"The Non-Aligned Movement is committed to promoting the purposes and principles of  international law, including those relating to the territorial integrity of States and the inviolability of their  international borders; inadmissibility of the use of force; non-interference in the internal affairs of States; and  the right to self-determination of peoples under foreign occupation and colonial or alien domination," he  said.

However, he kept silent about the acts of aggression committed by the Azerbaijani  Armed Forces against Armenia and Artsakh.

Then, Yashar Aliyev stressed the important role played by the International Court of Justice  in encouraging the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means, in accordance  with the relevant provisions of the Charter and the Statute of the Court.

However, the diplomat did not say a word about Azerbaijan's non-fulfillment of the  decision of the International Court of Justice on February 22 regarding the lifting of the  blockade of the Berdzor/Lachin corridor.

Speaking in his national capacity, Aliyev decided   to shift the problem from a sick head to a healthy one  and declared, saying that "Armenia's flawed and false allegations reveal the extent to which hatred,  intolerance and falsehood dominate in its discourse and its serious threat to regional peace..."

However, he did not stop there, and stated the aggression of Azerbaijan against Artsakh  in the fall of 2020 is Armenia's "fantasy". In this vein, he cynically stated that Azerbaijan  "used counterforce to restore its territorial integrity and protect its people." It seemed to  him that this was not enough, and he assured that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were  operating "exclusively on their territory."

But, even this lie seemed to him not enough, and to justify the aggression against the  sovereign territories of Armenia in September last year, Aliyev noted that the clashes in  September 2022 took place along the " non-delimited border and were provoked by Armenia's  armed forces."

Then he started the old tale about the use of the Berdzor corridor by Armenia "for illegal  military purposes", without providing any evidence of this fact.

"Instead of distorting facts, misinterpreting international documents and inciting enmity and hatred,  Armenia must abide by its international obligations. It must also completely withdraw its armed forces from  Azerbaijan; cease territorial claims, illegal activities and disinformation; end mine terrorism; and engage  faithfully on a peace treaty," the Azerbaijani diplomat said, apparently forgetting that it is  Azerbaijan that expresses territorial claims against Armenia, while the Armenian side has  never had such claims against Azerbaijan.
