ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan considers the EU statement regarding the clashes near the village of Tegh in the Syunik region very important.
"I believe that there were no emotional assessments in the EU statement, but there was a clear political assessment that the 1991 border should be preserved. And we agree with this assessment>, Pashinyan told journalists in the National Assembly on April 20.
According to him, this is a very important - fundamental assessment. And it means that a violation of the state border of Armenia has been recorded.
On April 11, the Armenian Defense Ministry issued a message according to which Azerbaijani units opened fire on the Armenian military, who were carrying out engineering work in the direction of the village of Tegh, Syunik region. Mortars were also used. Four soldiers were killed and six were wounded on the Armenian side. On April 12, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated from the rostrum of the RA National Assembly that the European Union monitoring mission, which monitors the situation on the borders of Armenia, was unable to register the incident on April 11, because at the time of the shooting it was not near the village of Tegh in the Syunik region of the republic.
Meanwhile, the European Union, in a statement, deplored the clashes that took place, noting that <the incident once again emphasizes that in the absence of border delimitation, the 1991 border line should be maintained, and the forces of both sides should move away from this line to a safe distance in order to avoid similar incidents. Brussels said it was necessary to respect previous commitments, including the agreements reached in Prague in October 2022, on the mutual recognition of territorial integrity based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. The European Union has also called for the intensification of negotiations on the delimitation of borders and declares its readiness to support this process.
