ArmInfo.Azerbaijan may refuse the Russian Federation to extend the term of stay of peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. They do not need additional witnesses to the massacres of Armenians. A similar opinion is shared by Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots.
It should be noted that earlier President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated on AzTV that the Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh must accept Azerbaijani citizenship or leave the region. According to Aliyev, "Baku intends to sign a peace agreement in the near future to put an end to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia." Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia must forever give up territorial claims to other countries in order to establish peace.
In this regard, Zatulin expressed his conviction that Pashinyan had surrendered people and territory.
"The next action will be to refuse Russia to extend the deployment period of the peacekeeping contingent. They are not needed there, so that there are no witnesses from outside, because they will expel, squeeze and oppress the Armenians," Konstantin Zatulin said in an interview with NSN.
At the same time, he noted that the story with Nagorno-Karabakh will not end there, because Baku is already refusing its promises on the autonomy of the disputed territory.
"The Armenian government surrendered Karabakh, surrendered people in Karabakh. Even during the Soviet era, this territory was an autonomous entity within Azerbaijan. Now, as we know, Azerbaijan is refusing what it promised before, namely the highest autonomy, there is none of this. The name Nagorno- Karabakh will be destroyed, Baku already refuses to call it that. This is a continuation of history in a new form, in a new time of the tragedy of the Armenian people - their eviction from their historical lands," Zatulin concluded.
