ArmInfo. A soldier of the armed forces of Azerbaijan, together with his comrade-in-arms simply fled from their positions and e crossed the border of Armenia. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this on April 12 during a government hour in the RA National Assembly, answering the question of MP Vilen Gabrielyan about the possibility of exchanging an Azerbaijani soldier for Armenian prisoners of war.
According to the Prime Minister, as a result of the investigative measures taken, it became clear that the soldier of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces was subjected to military hazing. At the same time, he did not declare his intention to return to Azerbaijan, and according to international obligations, Armenia in this case does not have the right to return a person by force. Meanwhile, according to the Armenian side, the head of government continued, the second soldier, who is still wanted, expressed a desire to return to his homeland.
Pashinyan, pointing to the fact of the unhindered crossing of the Armenian border by the soldiers of the Azerbaijani army, stressed the need for a separate investigation of this circumstance. He recalled the incident in mid-March of this year, when a serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces got lost, after which he was able to return within a few hours, passing through 20 positions of the Azerbaijani troops.
Thus, based on the abovementioned, the RA Prime Minister expressed doubts about the possibility of exchanging an Azerbaijani soldier for Armenian prisoners of war. On April 10, the Armenian Defense Ministry announced the detection and detention of an Azerbaijani serviceman in the territory of the republic.
