The vast majority of respondents in Armenia are convinced that the Russian-Ukrainian confrontation is in fact a confrontation between Russia and the United States. 66.6% of respondents think so. This is evidenced by the results of the survey:"Ordinary war" conducted by the MPG consulting company (Marketing Professional Group - the exclusive representative of the International Association GALLUP in Armenia).
At the same time, 21.7% of respondents do not agree with such a wording of the question, and 6.3% of respondents found it difficult to answer. If we look at the dynamics of change in public opinion, we can state that it is parabolic. In April last year, 68.4% of respondents thought so, 16.6% did not share this position, another 15.3% found it difficult to answer, and already in December 2022, this point of view was shared by only 63% of respondents, 24.6% - did not share this point of view, and 12.4% found it difficult to answer.
At the same time, the respondents' assessment of the justification for hostilities by the Russian Federation has changed. So, in the course of the survey, 52.4% of respondents consider Russia's military operations on the territory of Ukraine to be unjustified, 20.1% - consider it rather unjustified, 11.5% - rather justified, 11% - justified, 5% - found it difficult to answer. It is noteworthy that in this issue during the year the dynamics of a smooth change in the position of respondents from the justification of the actions of the Russian Federation to the unjustified was recorded. So, in April last year, only 24.7% considered the actions of the Russian Federation unjustified, 14.9% - rather unjustified, 18.8% - rather justified, 27% - rather justified, another 14.7% - found it difficult to answer.
At the same time, 39.7% of respondents agree that the processes around Ukraine will change the global world order, 34.5% of respondents consider that they rather will change it (in toal-74.2%), 10.6% of respondents consider that they would rather not change it, 10.9% - would not change it, 4.9% - found it difficult to answer. At the same time, during the year, the opinion of respondents in Armenia on this issue did not undergo major changes. So, in April 2022, 76.3% of respondents believed that the processes would affect the global world order, 15% - that they would not affect, 8.7% - found it difficult to answer.
When asked to assess the possibility of starting a nuclear war, 58.3% of respondents believe that the risk of starting such a war is high (25.6% - there is definitely such a risk, 24.5% - rather there is such a risk), rather there is no such risk - 22.5%, definitely not - 19.5% , another 3.9% - found it difficult to answer. At the same time, in April 2022, 41.6% of respondents spoke about the likelihood of a nuclear war, 50.7% - rather not, another 7.8%- found it difficult to answer.
It should be noted that the survey was conducted through telephone calls to residents of Armenia from March 23 to March 27, 2023. The sample size was 1100, the sampling error was +/- 3%.
