ArmInfo. Armenian servicemen will take part in the Defender-23 multinational exercises , which will begin on April 22. Sabrina Singh, Deputy Spokesperson of the Pentagon, stated in a briefing.
"Defender 23 is an annual, nearly two-month-long exercise that focuses on the strategic deployment of U.S.-based forces, employment of Army pre-positioned stocks, and interoperability with European allies and partners. Approximately 9,000 U.S. troops and about 17,000 troops from 26 Allied and partner nations will participate. And portions of the exercise will stretch across 10 different European countries," she said The Defender-23 exercise is led by the US Army Command in Europe and Africa and was planned back in 2021. They are designed to demonstrate the ability of the US military to quickly deploy combat-ready troops and equipment in order to reassure allies, deter those who threaten peace in Europe and protect the continent from aggression. The exercise should also demonstrate the commitment of European countries to increase the scale, capacity and interoperability of their military forces, the Pentagon spokeswoman said.
In addition to the United States, the military from Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Northern Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK. The Armenian Defense Ministry has not yet confirmed its participation in the exercises.
