ArmInfo. One of the strengths of the current Armenian authorities is the lack of shame. Third President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated this yesterday, commenting at the request of journalists on the statements of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan that the current authorities have spent more money on armaments over the past three years than over the past 30 years.
According to the third president, the people who govern the country can look into the eyes of their interlocutors and openly lie. <Recently, two statements have been made that are close to the truth. The first one is that they will present themselves as insane, but will fail the Madrid principles, and will not be guided by them, which, in fact, they did.
The second one refers to the statements made on the first day of the war, according to which, whatever happens, they will not consider themselves defeated. We have all witnessed the consequences of these two statements for our country>, the third President of the Republic of Armenia noted.
<I would like to remind people with a memory lapse that during these years Armenia was the only state in the region that was armed with S-300 battalions, long-range missiles, acquired more than 100 units of heavy equipment, hundreds of units of air defense systems, tens of thousands of large-scale ammunition caliber>, said the third president of the Republic of Armenia, adding that about $100 million was allocated for the purchase of firearms alone, not to mention the Iskander operational-tactical missile systems and other types of powerful weapons. <What did they buy? 3 planes that did not bring any benefit? A few dozen old OSA-AK? What else? Let them say>, said Serzh Sargsyan.
He stressed that a educated person, more or less familiar with military affairs, knows very well how to compare the volumes of acquired weapons and ammunition. The truth is that in 2018-2020 significant funds were allocated for defense needs, but the question of whether these funds were used to achieve the goal or scattered remains open. Sargsyan pointed to the availability of modest funds for procurement during his rule, but at the same time there were great opportunities that were used to receive military-technical assistance.
Commenting on Pashinyan's statements about the "fifth column" in the army, which, in his opinion, became the reason for the defeat in the 44-day war, Serzh Sargsyan said that nothing like this happened under his rule. <If he knows that there was a "fifth column" in the army, why didn't he take measures against it? However, it is quite possible that he is telling the truth, and it is possible that it is he who leads this very "fifth column". If he is aware of all these details, such a development is quite natural>, the third President of the Republic of Armenia emphasized.
