ArmInfo.Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan has resigned.
"I consider my mission as Yerevan mayor completed and I am announcing my resignation. I remain part of the political team and will continue the work aimed at developing our state," Mr Sargsyan wrote in a Facebook post.
According to earlier reports, Tigran Avinyan, who was elected Yerevan Vice-Mayor on September 23, will top the list of the Civil Contract party at the forthcoming elections to the Council of Elders.
"I hope the Civil Contract party will win a vote of confidence by Yerevan residents and get an opportunity to continue the programmes of vital importance for our community," he wrote.
Hrachya Sargsyan was elected Yerevan mayor on December 22, 2021.
"That was a difficult period for the community in terms of both municipal problems and domestic and foreign political situation. I considered implementation of the My Step (later renamed Civil Contract) alliance's election programme of 2018 and resuming effective cooperation with the authorities to be my mission. I am happy to say that both the missions have been accomplished, and the work done being evidence thereof," Mr Sargsyan wrote.
The elections to Yerevan's Council of Elders are scheduled for this September. The ruling party has nominated Tigran Avinyan to the post of Yerevan mayor.
