ArmInfo.The Criminal Court of Appeal decided to satisfy the complaint of the preliminary investigation body about the arrest of former commander of the third army corps, Major General Grigory Khachaturov, canceling the decision of the court of first instance.
On February 21, the Anti-Corruption Court, chaired by Judge Tigran Davtyan, rejected a motion to arrest Khachaturov as a preventive measure. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia appealed this decision to the Criminal Court of Appeal.
On February 20, the National Security Service of Armenia submitted a petition to the prosecutor to initiate public criminal prosecution against commander of the unit G.Kh (Grigory Khachaturov, ed. note) who held the position in 2006-2010, for the legalization (money laundering) of real estate on an especially large scale acquired by criminal means using official position.
General Grigory Khachaturov is the son of the former head of the General Staff and former CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov. In July 2021, G. Khachaturov left the post of commander of the 3rd Army Corps. Repeatedly participated in anti-government protests. As Khachaturov's lawyer, Hakob Yenokyan, told the media, Khachaturov is involved in the case of the former Minister of Defense, head of the "Armenia" opposition faction Seyran Ohanyan, who is accused of embezzlement on an especially large scale and abuse of official duties. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, by order of Ohanyan (when he was a minister), the territories and buildings of a number of military units located in the Ararat region were sold at prices much lower than market prices. According to the prosecution, one of the plots was sold to Grigory Khachaturov in 2005.
