ArmInfo.Yerevan hosts the second meeting of the Intergovernmental Working Group on Drought (IWG on drought) and a regional capacity building workshop to develop an effective policy within the framework of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and take measures aimed at solving problems caused by drought. Welcoming partners and congratulating them on their first visit to Armenia, the Minister touched upon the work of the intergovernmental working group on drought issues, highly appreciating the joint efforts to solve environmental problems.
He presented the steps taken by Armenia, which are aimed at preventing desertification and drought, resolving issues related to afforestation and increasing forest areas, efficient water management and prudent use of natural resources.
Alain-Richard Donwahi assessed environmental issues as having no borders and considered the efforts made by Armenia in this context impressive. The minister noted that much remains to be done in the management of the industry and Armenia attaches great importance to the exchange of international experience.
The parties agreed to continue cooperation within the framework of the convention and consider the possibility of implementing new programs and activities.
