ArmInfo. There are concerns about the possibility of the withdrawal of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) from Armenia, which cannot but be worrying for official Yerevan. On March 14, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press conference, when asked to comment on Armenia renouncing its quota of Deputy Secretary- General of the CSTO.
According to the prime minister, during a meeting with him last year, the leaders of the CSTO voiced concerns that Armenia might leave the Organization < These fears are unfounded. There is another pace of developments, that is, the possibility of CSTO leaving Armenia. According to my estimates, the CSTO, willingly or not, is leaving Armenia, which worries us. We will gladly accept the post of Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO if we know that this fact will become another factor in ensuring the security of the Republic of Armenia. Otherwise, we see no reason to take this step, based on the logic of being honest with our own people>, the prime minister emphasized.
He added that Armenia worked effectively and continues to work with the Organization. "We even proposed our principles, which, by the way, do not concern the Republic of Armenia, but the entire Organization. Do the principles of the CSTO function on its territory? We are ready to discuss this issue>, the head of government stressed.
He pointed out the incorrectness of the voicing statements that from 2021 Armenia allegedly is not at war with Azerbaijan, but demands protection from the CSTO. , Nikol Pashinyan concluded.
On March 10, Vahan Hunanyan, the then press secretary of the Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, informed the journalists that Armenia submitted a proposal to give up the quota of the CSTO Deputy Secretary General.
According to the regulations, the Secretary General of the CSTO, which includes Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, has three deputies. Starting this year, the CSTO has a new Secretary General - in accordance with the principle of rotation, the representative of Belarus, Stanislav Zas, was replaced by the representative of Kazakhstan, Imangali Tasmagambetov.
