ArmInfo.Armenian cyber experts managed to stop another hacking attack of Azerbaijan, which this time was directed against the banking system of Armenia. Blogger, traveler Alexander Lapshin, who is considered in Azerbaijan as an agent of Armenia's influence and a personal enemy of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, was chosen as the main tool of attack.
As it became known, since the autumn of last year, a number of Armenian banks began to receive e-mails of suspicious content, in which the name of Alexander Lapshin was mentioned. Having contacted the blogger, the latter became aware that Lapshin had nothing to do with these letters. The traveler himself immediately came to the conclusion that such actions could have been initiated by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan. The perfect act of a cyber attack on the banking system was analyzed by two specialized companies at once - the Armenian Cyber Hub and the American-Israeli Check Point. As a result of a study that lasted several months, both companies came to the conclusion that the virus program was aimed at providing complete invisible control over affected computers and smartphones.
In addition, it was proved that the attacks were carried out from Azerbaijan, since the experts were able to identify that, through special geofacing, this virus could only infect computers located in Armenia. The hackers used a specially modified script designed on the basis of the virus, which was previously used by the Azerbaijani services to control their own dissidents. According to cyber security specialist Artur Papyan, the extent of the damage could have been enormous if the spread of the virus had not been stopped in time and if there had been no prompt response by Alexander Lapshin. < This could lead to the collapse of Armenia's financial system. But there is no guarantee that such attacks will not be repeated in another form>, he warned.
