ArmInfo.Today we honor the memory of the victims of the atrocious crime committed by Azerbaijanis against Armenians in Sumgayit 35 years ago. The Sumgayit pogroms were a tragic consequence of the hatred and intolerance that was inculcated towards the Armenians in Soviet Azerbaijan. Former State Minister of Artsakh Ruben Vardanyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
<After Sumgayit, massacres continued in Gandzak, and in January 1990 - in Baku. More than half a million Armenians living in Soviet Azerbaijan were displaced in the most cruel and violent way. We must be able to learn the right lessons from our history and do everything to become stronger and protect our compatriots, wherever they are. Let's make sure that the culprit of attacks on their lives and dignity understands that we can unite and give a worthy response. This is the only way to exclude the repetition of such tragic pages>, the former state minister wrote.
