ArmInfo. Ukrainian Armenians take an active part in the defense of Ukraine. Charge d'Affaires of Ukraine in Armenia Oleksandr Senchenko, said this on February 24 in an interview given to the RFE/RL's Armenian Service on the occasion of the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
At the same time, he noted that the Armenians are also actively involved in the volunteer movement, which, from the very beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has acquired large-scale dimensions.
"It is very important. And not only the Armenians of Ukraine, but also the Armenian Diaspora of other countries are involved in all this. And thank you very much," Senchenko added.
Noting that he was delegated to Armenia as Charge d'Affaires in November last year, the diplomat noted that he was pleased with his business trip because Armenia is an interesting country, and Armenians are pleasant, hospitable people.
Answering the host's question regarding the influence of Russian propaganda on the Armenian society, Senchenko expressed hope that the Armenian media, which objectively cover the developments in Ukraine, following the journalistic code, will contribute to changing, even limiting the influence of the Russian media on the Armenian society.
, he added.
Regarding the development of Ukrainian-Armenian relations, the diplomat assured that he would work for their development. In this regard, he stated that Armenia and Ukraine are connected by many ties in the historical retrospective, which has been taking place since the Middle Ages.
When asked by the interviewer about the lack of condemnation by Kiev of the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, in particular the statements of a number of Ukrainian MPs about the "exaggeration", "falsity" of the situation, Senchenko noted that he had not seen such assessments, especially from official representatives.
In what exactly did Ukraine not support Armenia? You see, there is a question here that concerns the conflict as such, known as "frozen conflicts", which can break out at any moment. Ukraine is in favor of the conflict being resolved, as it should be, in accordance with international law, through negotiations, that is, through diplomacy>, the diplomat explained.
International law, as he continued further, is based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. "The Ukrainian side follows this position, including in relation to Nagorno-Karabakh," Senchenko stressed.
Recalling that Armenia filed a lawsuit against Azerbaijan in the international court, including on the situation in the Lachin corridor, Charge d'Affaires interim said that due to the lack of an opportunity to assess this situation, the Ukrainian side would be more guided by the international position on this issue.
It should be noted that today, on February 24, near the monument to the Ukrainian poet, writer, artist T.G. Shevchenko, at the initiative of the Fund for Assistance to Refugees of Ukraine "Dopomoga" an action in memory of the heroes sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war and innocently killed citizens will be held.
After the action in the House of Cinema, at 20:00, there will be a premiere screening of a documentary film made by a group of journalists from Canada and the Netherlands - The Kharkiv Files. Admission is free.
