ArmInfo. Only a mad person can be against an Armenian- Azerbaijani agreement, but the question is if Armenia and Artsakh will continue to exist after the document is signed, Chairman of The Fatherland party Artur Vanetsyan told reporters on February 20.
The cost of the agreement for the Armenian people must be known.
"Will Armenia and Artsakh continue to exist and will Armenians be able to live in security in their homeland?" Mr Vanetsyan asked.
He highlights the importance of public awareness of the agreement. "Does anybody know what the incumbent authorities are going to sign? Especially give the fact that they have on different occasions signed anti-Armenian documents with anti-Armenian steps following and verbal agreements frequently mentioned, which resulted in territorial concessions to the enemy," Mr Vanetsyan said. In this context, he highlights the importance of public consultations to prevent the signing of one more anti-Armenian document.
Mr Vanetsyan is for a peace agreement. However, the document should be presented to the public point by point. In this context he highlights the importance is talks by opinion formers, who could inform the public of the threats the signing of such an agreement with Azerbaijan could pose.
"One thing is obvious: Armenia, Artsakh and the Armenian people's future are in danger. Let us wait until further developments," Mr Vanetsyan said.
He recalled that in 2019 he resigned from the post of Chief of Armenia's National Security Service, but no one understood his step then, as people did not know where the country was backsliding.
"Since then I have been speaking of threats facing the Armenian people," Mr Vanetsyan said. One of the major problems of Armenia's incumbent authorities is forming "dividing lines", with the people divided into "the black" and "the white", "pro-Russian" and "pro-Western." And these divisions enable them to remain in power. "I am sure all the steps [Armenia's Premier] Nikol Pashinyan is taking are aimed at ensuring his remaining in power," Mr Vanetsyan said.
