ArmInfo.Thirty-five years after the beginning of the Karabakh movement, the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh are facing serious challenges. This is stated in the address of Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the beginning of the Karabakh movement.
<35 years ago these days the Karabakh movement began. The spontaneous and mass protests that began on February 20, 1988 will remain in the history of Armenia as a symbol of national awakening, unity and liberation struggle. This movement was the first step towards the restoration of Armenian statehood, thanks to which we regained the determination to live freely and independently, shape our destiny and control our future," he said.
According to Pashinyan, the Karabakh movement expressed the right and will of the people of Artsakh to defend their rights and live a decent life on their land. "Our compatriots, even today being in blockade, are forced to express their will to protect their own rights and ensure security. As I have said more than once, such actions of Azerbaijan pursue one and only goal - to break the will of the population of Nagorno- Karabakh, which, I am sure, is unshakable and inflexible>, he said.
As the prime minister assured, the Armenian side continues to step up efforts in order to draw the attention of the international community to the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, since only its unrelenting activity can restrain the aggressiveness of the Azerbaijani side, force it to fully fulfill the obligations assumed in accordance with the tripartite statement from November 9, 2020 and reopen the Lachin corridor.
At the same time, Armenia will continue consistent steps to solve socio-economic problems, solve security problems, create mechanisms for protecting the rights and ensuring the security of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. The implementation of these goals requires tireless work, Pashinyan noted.
movement, and we must move towards this goal>, the head of the Armenian Cabinet noted.
