ArmInfo.Armenia's President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia Masanori Fukushima.

Welcoming the Ambassador, President Khachaturyan congratulated him on  Japan's National holiday: "We are meeting on a happy occasion, as  Japan is about to celebrate its National holiday - the Birthday of  His Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan. On this occasion, I wish the  very best to the people of Japan, and wish sound health and welfare  to the Emperor," said the President.

Expressing his gratitude for the reception and the congratulations,  Ambassador Masanori noted that he attaches big importance to the  continuous development and strengthening of the existing friendly  relations between Armenia and Japan.

"I believe that even though the relations between our countries are  on a very high level, they still have a bigger potential for  development and we should aim our efforts in that direction. Our  countries have no political issues with one another, on the contrary,  there is a big potential for the development of cooperation in the  fields of education, culture, as well as trade and economy," noted  the Ambassador.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of questions  regarding Armenian-Japanese cooperation, particularly in the field of  high technologies. They touched upon the practical possibilities of  applying Japanese experience in the fields of earthquake-resistant  construction and atomic energy exploitation.

They also touched upon the organizational works of the "EXPO 2025  Osaka, Kansai, Japan" international exposition and the issues of  Armenia's high-level representation in the expo.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan highlighted that, within the framework  of his capacities, he will eagerly support the process of Armenia's  proper representation at the exposition planned in Osaka, as well as  the implementation of joint Armenian-Japanese projects.

The President provided the Ambassador with details regarding regional  issues, particularly the threats of a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno  Karabakh because of the blockade of the Lachin Corridor.

In his speech, Ambassador Masanori noted that Japan supports the  principle of solving regional problems exclusively by peaceful and  diplomatic means, and finds the restoration of the normal operation  of the Lachin Humanitarian Corridor very important.
