ArmInfo. Former Minister of Defense of Armenia, head of the "Armenia" faction Seyran Ohanyan does not accept the charges against him and intends to prove his innocence in court. The parliamentarian stated this during a briefing in the Parliament on February 13.
It should be reminded that today the RA Prosecutor General's Office charged Ohanyan with embezzlement of state funds on an especially large scale and abuse of official powers. The materials prepared by the Prosecutor General's Office say that by order of the Minister of Defense, the territories and buildings of 2 military units were sold at a price below the market value.
During the briefing, Ohanyan emphasized that by mentioning this property as a "military unit" several times in the indictment, an attempt is being made to divert the public's attention. "These are old, decommissioned land plots and destroyed buildings. You know that in the early days of the formation of the army, any building could be used as temporary strongholds. But in the future, in parallel with the development of the Armed Forces, we built new, better buildings for permanent deployment," the ex- Minister of Defense said.
He emphasized that all these lands and buildings became a source of additional costs, the maintenance of which required more funds than their basic cost. It should be reminded that at the plenary session on February 8, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia satisfied the request of the Prosecutor General's Office to give the consent of the National Assembly to the criminal prosecution against head of the "Armenia" opposition faction, former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan As stated in the message of the Prosecutor General's Office, Ohanyan, who held the post of Minister of Defense from April 14, 2008 to September 9, 2016, for the sake of group interests, used his official position contrary to the interests of the service, did not fulfill his official duties, which negligently entailed grave consequences.
