ArmInfo. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) presented the humanitarian activity carried out by it against the background of the blockade of the Lachine Corridor.
Thus, the ICRC reported that since 19 December 2022, in its role as neutral humanitarian intermediary and in agreement with the sides, the ICRC has carried out 19 medical evacuations along the Lachin corridor, thereby facilitating the safe passage of 66 patients in need of urgent medical care, together with their accompaniers. "Our teams have also delivered medicine, baby formula, and food to local health facilities.
On 6 January, the ICRC teams distributed food and hygiene items to eight hospitals, a physical rehabilitation center, an institution taking care of more than 300 destitute elderly people, and a center supporting children from socially vulnerable families.
?n 30 January, the ICRC started distributing food parcels and hygiene boxes to pregnant women.
As this situation has led to some families being separated, in January, we have facilitated the transfer of 95 people across the Lachin corridor. This is done in agreement with the sides and based on the wishes of the concerned family members," the ICRC summed up.
Since December 12, 2022, for 53 days now, the Azerbaijani side, under a far-fetched environmental pretext, blocked the only road connecting Artsakh with the outside world. The population of the NKR has been in a blockade for the second month, deprived of basic means of subsistence. Since January 9, Artsakh has been deprived of the opportunity to receive electricity from Armenia, due to the destructive actions of Azerbaijan. Rolling blackouts occur on a daily basis in the republic. Moreover, from noon on January 12, the enemy side also interrupted the communication cable that provides the country's population with Internet and telephone communications. It was restored only on January 14. The enemy periodically hinders the gas supply to Artsakh.
