ArmInfo. The international community, including the Russian Federation and the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, should make efforts to put pressure on the Azerbaijani authorities to open the Lachin corridor and resolve the very painful humanitarian situation that has developed there. Former Minister of Defense of Armenia, MP from the <Armenia> faction Seyran Ohanyan, stated this during a briefing on January 19.
He stressed that the Armenian authorities are afraid to say that with the collapse of the USSR, in accordance with the law of the USSR, Artsakh became self-determined, in the same period, under the same conditions as Armenia and Azerbaijan. "And in this situation, the only way to resolve the Artsakh issue is self-determination and independence," the former defense minister stressed.
Ohanyan noted that if neighboring states want to live in peaceful conditions, they must be ready for peaceful coexistence. However, according to him, the rhetoric, the practical actions of the Azerbaijani- Turkish tandem, provocations, military actions, the blockade of Artsakh, indicate that the peace agenda is essentially false. "And the Armenian authorities blindly follow this agenda, being afraid to say that Artsakh had already self-determined years earlier, and that under these conditions it is not possible to live as part of Azerbaijan, and Artsakh should not be part of Azerbaijan," Ohanyan said.
Recalling that in 2022 the ring around Armenia and Artsakh was narrowed by the corresponding actions of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem, the parliamentarian stressed that 2023 will be more difficult if the RA authorities continue to make inadequate decisions, do not take into account priorities in foreign policy and in the security system.
He stressed that the RA government shifts the responsibility for resolving the current situation in Artsakh to Azerbaijan and Russia, ignoring the fact that Armenia also signed the tripartite statement dated November 9, 2020.
