ArmInfo. Georgia would like to contribute to peace and stability through joint parliamentary efforts with Azerbaijan and Armenia, which is a necessary condition for the development of our region.
Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili stated this in his welcoming speech at the annual meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions of Georgia abroad. In his speech, he spoke about the challenges in the world and the region, the security situation and Georgia's foreign policy priorities. According to him, 2022 was a difficult year at the international level, and it was in this difficult situation that Georgia had to take care of protecting its territorial integrity, expanding partnerships and promoting peace, security and prosperity in the region. "Georgia has provided significant political, diplomatic and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Despite often undeserved criticism, Georgia will continue to stand on the bright side of freedom in the future and will continue to lend a helping hand to Ukrainians fleeing war and destruction at this difficult time. Along with large-scale war in Ukraine, there is also no peace directly in our region. We would like to promote peace and stability through joint parliamentary efforts with Azerbaijan and Armenia, which is a necessary condition for the development of our region," Shalva Papuashvili said, Georgian mass media reported. In turn, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, during his speech, recalled that the duty of any government is to protect the interests, first of all, of its own country. "It was unpleasant for us to hear the statements that we hear from representatives of the Ukrainian authorities. However, I would like to note that since this country and its government is at war, we do not want to make unnecessary statements on this topic. Our main task is the protection of our own national interests. I have repeatedly said, and we have confirmed this with our policies and actions, that, of course, we respect the sovereignty of all countries, but it is our country that we love the most," the Georgian Prime Minister said, pointing out the great role of ambassadors in this matter.
"So that we can correctly convey our message to the capitals, correctly represent the interests of our country and effectively deal with the disinformation campaign that stems not only from our country, but also from other countries. We are well aware that this is an orchestrated attack on the interests of our country. Therefore, this attack, this disinformation needs effective response," the Prime Minister of Georgia said.
