Cyprus-Artsakh parliamentary friendship group strongly condemns  Azerbaijani genocide against Nagorno- Karabakh Armenians

The new flare-up of violence began on the morning of December 12, 2022, when Azerbaijani special forces blocked the passage to the Lachin  Corridor, without any reaction from the Russian peacekeepers deployed  under the Tripartite Agreement between the Prime Minister of the  Republic of Armenia, the of the President of the Republic of  Azerbaijan and the President of the Russian Federation on November 9,  2020, in order to ensure the connection between Nagorno-Karabakh and  Armenia, reads a statement by the Cyprus-Artsakh parliamentary  friendship group. 

Propaganda preparations to close the Lachin Corridor started months  ago and it is obvious that this provocation was organized by the  state authorities of Azerbaijan, with the aim of cutting off Nagorno-  Karabakh from the Republic of Armenia and therefore from the outside  world. Azerbaijan has already cut off the flow of natural gas to  winter-battered Artsakh, the flow of medicine, food and baby food and  the movement of seriously patients to Yerevan.

Nagorno-Karabakh is facing an incipient food and humanitarian crisis.

The created situation directly contradicts point 6 of the Tripartite  Declaration of November 9, 2020, according to which:

a) The Lachin Corridor is under the control of Russian peacekeeping  troops deployed in Nagorno- Karabakh;

b) The Republic of Azerbaijan guarantees the safety of the movement  of citizens, vehicles and goods through the Lachin Corridor.

Therefore, Azerbaijan is flagrantly violating its international  commitment. 

Azerbaijan's behavior betrays Baku's intention to continue the  genocide against the Armenians of Artsakh and Syunik.

In addition to our own actions as a Cyprus-Artsakh friendship group,  we call on the Government and the Parliament of the Republic of  Cyprus and the Cypriot MEPs to ask the international community,  including the United Nations Security Council, the Co-Chair of the  OSCE Minsk Group and the member states, EU and the government of the  Russian Federation to take responsibility and pressure Azerbaijan to  stop this crime against innocent people, this brutal crime against  humanity.
