ArmInfo.The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is launching a five-year program to support the Armenian government to establish a more impartial and independent justice system. The program is funded by the US Agency for International Development and implemented by Development Professionals, Inc.
At the presentation of the project, USAID/Armenia Mission Director John Allelo noted that the USAID- Armenia program stands ready to help Armenia resolve issues that plague the judiciary, such as an inefficient case management system, a growing backlog of cases, and a lack of transparency over court rulings." According to him, the program will help increase the independence and efficiency of the judiciary by strengthening the capacity of courts, self-government bodies and educational institutions, as well as strengthening multilateral control over the implementation of reforms in the justice sector.
The presentation of the program was attended by high level officials including John Allelo, USAID/Armenia Mission Director; Arman Dilanyan, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court; YeranuhiTumanyants, Supreme Judicial Council, Grigor Minasyan, Acting Minister of Justice; Sergey Arakelyan, Rector of the Justice Academy; government representatives; and representatives of international, civil society and media organizations. During the event, participants were invited to gather informally to continue ongoing discussions regarding the current challenges facing the judicial system and opportunities for strengthening the justice sector in Armenia.
