ArmInfo. Russia is concerned over the blocking of the Lachin corridor, and expects the resumption of transport communication in the near future, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.
According to her, the blocking of the Lachin corridor is the result of "disagreements over the development of ore deposits."
The Ministry of Defense of Russia and the Russian peacekeeping contingent are actively working to de- escalate the situation.
"We expect to restore a full-fledged transport connection in the near future," said the diplomat.
Accusations and provocations against Russian peacekeepers are unacceptable and counterproductive, "wherever they come from." "The Russian peacekeeping contingent effectively performing its tasks, acting as a guarantor of stability in the region," Zakharova said.
The Lachin Corridor ensures the connection between Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia and is under the control of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
"In signing the statement of 9 November 2020, the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan assumed respective commitments which must be strongly observed. Creating problems for civilian population's everyday life is unacceptable," Zakharova said.
