ArmInfo. Stepanakert expects that the EU will give an appropriate assessment to Azerbaijan's actions, as a humanitarian catastrophe is taking place, a manifestation of a genocidal policy.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh David Babayan stated on December 13 at a press conference in Yerevan, commenting on Stepanakert's expectations from Brussels, considering that the observation mission will last until December 19 and will not be extended.
"We have already sent a number of official letters to various European organizations. We hope that concrete steps will be taken and there will be targeted assessments and sanctions against Azerbaijan. Indifference is one of the most dangerous manifestations," the minister stressed.
He recalled that Artsakh has been under complete blockade for 29 hours. "The total blockade is already a fact. As for whether this will be the beginning for larger-scale actions by Azerbaijan, it to some extent depends on the appropriate reaction of the international community. If there is no reaction, sympathy for the people of Artsakh and if there is indifference, this may lead to new developments, if not now, then next time. Impunity encourages aggression," Babayan said.
According to him, impunity, and in some cases the encouragement of aggression, for example, from Turkey, leads to the fact that in the 21st century Azerbaijan dooms an entire nation to starvation.
Artsakh ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan, in his turn, noted that the European Union is an organization based on universal human rights and values and is engaged in the promotion of human rights in the world. "But, unfortunately, we see that these criminal actions of Azerbaijan have not yet received any adequate assessment from this body. Recently, energy resources and geopolitical interests have overshadowed the agenda of human rights, and in general, human rights in the world. "But, this should not be the case, specifically in the EU. The organization that disseminates this agenda in the world should be the first to adhere to and defend it. I believe that the EU should impose sanctions on Azerbaijan for the grossest violation of human rights in Artsakh," said the Ombudsman of Artsakh.
