ArmInfo. The blocking of the road linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia by the so-called Azerbaijani "environmental activists" has a number of goals. One of them is to cause a humanitarian catastrophe in Artsakh, the population of which has repeatedly, including after the 2020 war, rejected any prospect of being part of Azerbaijan, insisting on the need to exercise their natural right to self- determination.
Doctor of Political Sciences, an expert in the field of cross-border infrastructure projects Vahe Davtyan, expressed this opinion in his Telegram channel.
According to the expert, in this sense, Baku's actions aimed at paralyzing the transport connection between Armenia and Artsakh are a direct violation of international humanitarian law, as well as the basic foundations of international law as such.
Another, no less significant task pursued by Baku is to demonstrate the inefficiency and, consequently, the inappropriateness of the presence of Russian peacekeepers. Davtyan believes, that this is a direct challenge to the Russian presence in Artsakh and in the region as a whole. Most likely, the issue will be resolved in the next few hours, but it is important to understand that today's incidents are symptomatic, and it is important to consider them from the point of view of the possibility of development of the situation in Artsakh in the short term. According to the political scientist, the ''peace treaty'' promoted by Azerbaijan makes no sense and, in fact, is impossible without determining the status of Artsakh in accordance with the right of peoples to self- determination. Otherwise, any document signed by Yerevan will lead to genocidal consequences for the Artsakh Armenians. < As Schlegel wrote, history is a reverse prophecy. Today it is important to realize this more than ever>, Davtyan noted.
It should be noted that on December 12 at 10:30 am a group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothes blocked the Stepanakert-Goris highway, "for environmental reasons." Armenian telegram channels have already identified employees of the Azerbaijani special services among the so-called ecologists. The Azerbaijanis are trying to provoke Russian peacekeepers, and have set up a tent on the only road linking Artsakh with Armenia. The road remains closed to this day. The so-called Azerbaijani "environmentalists" have lit up with a demonstration of the "Grey Wolves" symbol of the Turkish ultra-nationalists.
