ArmInfo. The tactical situation on Armenia's borders remains tense, Armenia's Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan stated in an interview with the Public TV.
"Our task is preventing escalation and reaching a negotiated peace, which has repeatedly been stated by Armenia's government. Still, I cannot state that all the threats have been averted. Nor would I like to instill fears because there are no reasons for concern now," he said.
He pointed out great work carried out on the frontline since this September.
As regards the government's plans to form a professional army, the minister recalled the bills Armenia's parliament adopted on Wednesday.
"It is going to be an entirely new system with sergeants allowed to deal with problems in coordination with highest officers," Mr Papikyan said. Moreover, sergeants will be allowed to continue their education to be trained as army officers.
Armenia is planning to purchase "arms of new quality." "Great work is progress," the minister said.
