ArmInfo. The provision of assistance to Armenia by the CSTO without a political assessment of Azerbaijan's actions will mean direct recognition of the status quo that has developed on the country's borders.
This was stated on December 7 during a government hour in the National Assembly of Armenia by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, commenting on the reasons for the refusal of the Armenian side to sign the draft on "Declaration of the Collective Security Council of the CSTO and on joint measures to provide assistance to the Republic of Armenia".
According to the Prime Minister, without a political assessment, it is also difficult to accept the possibility of an observation mission by the CSTO on the borders of Armenia. For example, at the four-party meeting in Prague, the parties clearly declared each other's territorial integrity in accordance with the 1991 Alma- Ata Declaration. The Prime Minister emphasized that only after that it became possible to send a mission of the European Union to the region. , the head of government noted.
He noted that the challenges related to the security of the state have not decreased, and may have increased. "But our assessment is that if the document is signed, the existing challenges will not only not decrease, but may even increase," the RA Prime Minister noted.
On November 23, at the CSTO summit in Yerevan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan refused to sign the draft on "Declaration of the Collective Security Council of the CSTO and on joint measures to provide assistance to the Republic of Armenia".
, he said during his speech. Based on this, Pashinyan said that the draft CSTO declaration on assistance to Armenia submitted for signing was not sufficiently finalized and that he was not ready "to sign these documents in this form." It should be noted that after the bloody battles on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on September 13-14, official Yerevan turned to Russia, the CSTO and the UN Security Council for military assistance. The CSTO sent a mission to Armenia to assess the situation, the issue of assistance is still being discussed. Yerevan also expects a targeted political assessment of the occupation of Armenian territories from the CSTO.
