ArmInfo.Samvel Babayan's "United Motherland" party issued a statement in connection with reports about the establishment of control mechanisms in the Lachin corridor.
The party's statement received by ArmInfo notes that, following the official publications and approaches of the parties regarding the establishment of possible control mechanisms in the Lachin corridor connecting Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, after another provocation from Azerbaijan under the guise of an environmental action, United Motherland states:
"The imperative of the day is to delegate a mandate to conduct a peacekeeping mission in Nagorno- Karabakh with the active participation of the international community in accordance with the procedures of the UN Security Council, until its necessity is eliminated, that is, a comprehensive political settlement of the conflict." In addition, the party is convinced that actions and interferences that do not follow from the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020, which infringe on the rights and freedoms of the people of Artsakh in their historical homeland, are completely unacceptable.
"Based on the justification of the need to control the transportation of prohibited goods, appropriate measures should be implemented mainly on the Karvachar-Mataghis and Khudaferin-Sanasar-Kashatagh- Karvachar routes, as well as in the Karvachar, Kashatagh and Akna regions that came under the control of Azerbaijan in accordance with the tripartite a statement, and where the Azerbaijani side not only concentrated a huge amount of manpower and military equipment, but also from there invaded the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia - Jermuk, Vardenis, Syunik and other teritories. And this is in the case when the territories surrendered without hostilities were supposed to be demilitarized zones in compliance with international principles and norms, in this case under the responsibility of Russian peacekeepers," the statement said. "It is urgent to clarify the geographical coordinates of the line of contact between Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin corridor, and based on this, deploy no more than one checkpoint in the segment of the deployment of the Russian peacekeeping contingent along the 5 km corridor," the party stressed. At the same time, concern is expressed in connection with the approaches of Armenia - as a party to the signatory of the tripartite declaration, regarding the interpretation of the provisions of the same declaration, a discretionary attitude towards them, formed by political expediency. "The authorities of the Republic of Armenia must be consistent in specifying and fixing in the documents arising from the tripartite declaration the aforementioned essential and technical issues, obliging the other parties to the declaration to fulfill their obligations in full.
The criminal arrogance of the authorities of the Republic of Artsakh is surprising against the background of the incessant manifestations of force and the threat of force against their own people. In particular, territorial losses of strategic importance: the villages of Khtsaberd and Hin Tagher of the Hadrut region (December 11-12, 2020), the village of Parukh and the adjacent Karaglukh height (March 24, 2022), Mount Kusanats with the adjacent heights of Saribab and Buzdukh ( August 3, 2022), tension on the line of contact with victims and wounded, incidents among the civilian population, etc. "We reaffirm our position that the internal political structure of the Republic of Artsakh does not reflect post-war realities. And the political leadership of the country is completely unaware of the essence of the challenges in Artsakh and around it, which can only be overcome by new elections. As a result of which, a government mandated by the people Artsakh, will receive positive legitimacy to conduct direct negotiations with Azerbaijan, otherwise the people can take proportionate steps," the party concluded.
On December 3, a group of Azerbaijani servicemen in civilian clothes, under the guise of environmentalists, blocked the Goris-Stepanakert interstate road in the Shushi-Karintak section. They were allegedly concerned about environmental issues and demanded clarification. The road was unblocked after three hours of negotiations, which were conducted by the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. After that, the topic of deploying a mini customs checkpoint on the Armenia-Artsakh road began to circulate
