ArmInfo. Members of Parliament of Armenia held a moment of silence in honor of the victims of the 1988 Spitak earthquake.
Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan made the respective proposal at the beginning of today's session.
The devastating earthquake affected 40% of Armenia's territory. Spitak, Leninakan, Kirovakan, Stepanavan towns, hundreds of other settlements neighboring Spitak, Akhuryan, Gugark, Aragats, Kalinino, Stepanavan were destroyed or damaged.
The death toll exceeded 25,000, with 514,000 left homeless. The economic damage caused to Armenia amounted to 13 billion Soviet rubles.
