ArmInfo.Members of the Iranian Mejlis, including representatives of the Azerbaijani-speaking provinces, on November 13 criticized the recent provocative statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The leader of Azerbaijan at the 9th summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG) said that his country would try to ensure that those who, by the will of fate outside of Azerbaijan, preserved their native language, traditions, culture, and were faithful to the ideas of Azerbaijanism. Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Ali Nikzad said at the morning session: " The grandson cannot deny the existence of his grandfather, therefore the statements of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan are groundless."
Iranian parliamentarian Alborz Hosseini, in turn, advised Aliyev to read the Gulistan peace treaty in order to understand the history of the country! He stressed that the President of Azerbaijan has no right to make such statements about the territorial integrity of neighboring countries. "The statements of the President of Azerbaijan are groundless, if the Gulistan peace agreement was not fulfilled, then the Republic of Azerbaijan would be a part of Iran and he would not have become the president of this country. The Iranian Foreign Ministry and Parliament should respond to such statements, because the region needs peace more than ever, " said the representative of the Iranian parliament. The representative of the city of Tabriz, Mohammadreza Mir-Tajedini, also commented on Aliyev's statements, noting that it is Azerbaijan had separated from Iran, and if we are talking about accession, then Nakhijevan should join Iran.
