ArmInfo.On November 9, Chief of the RA Police, Police Major General Vahe Ghazaryan received Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia.
According to the press service of the Police, welcoming the guest, Vahe Ghazaryan highly appreciated the relations established between the two states, including bilateral law enforcement cooperation, which is carried out on the basis of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2012 between the Iranian Interior Ministry and the Armenian Police.
The RA Police Chief spoke about the fight against drug trafficking. He mentioned that a new department has been established in the police , the main function of which is to prevent and detect cases of drug trafficking in social networks and information platforms. Vahe Ghazaryan stressed that within the framework of this department it is planned to establish its branch in Meghri.
The Chief of the RA Police also spoke about other areas of cooperation and pointed to a particularly serious crime committed in Armenia this year, in the disclosure of which the law enforcement officers of Iran and the Iranian embassy were involved.
Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri thanking for the warm welcome, noted that close Armenian-Iranian relations are developing day by day. Welcoming the establishment of a professional police department in Meghri, he noted that this would further increase the level of security at the border, and expressed the support of the Iranian side in this direction. The Ambassador also spoke about the struggle of Iranian law enforcement agencies against drug trafficking and terrorism.
