ArmInfo.Recently, without exaggeration, the attention of Armenians around the world has been focused on the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations. Several power centers submitted proposals to the authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan on key issues of the settlement. This is stated in the statement of Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan.
At the same time, the head of the NKR stated that the proposed principles and approaches, if adopted and implemented, will be of decisive importance not only for the Republic of Artsakh and its people, but also for Armenia and other countries of the region.
"It is for this reason that we have no right to make a mistake, since any mistake can be fatal. We are sure that those proposals and principles that deny the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination, deprive the prospect of a fair settlement of the conflict and cast doubt on the existence of Artsakh, should be rejected once and for all. And this is in the interests of not only the Republic of Artsakh, but of the entire Armenian nation, because the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh constitute a single Motherland and an inseparable integrity of values and interests," Harutyunyan noted.
At the same time, he stated that Artsakh welcomes the statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia that back in early September of this year, Armenia agreed to work towards the establishment of interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the basis of the principles and parameters presented by Russia, and is ready to reaffirm this at the summit meeting to be held on 31 October in Sochi.
"Of course, as a result of the negotiation process, we would like to achieve a fair and final settlement of the Karabakh conflict and international recognition of the independent status of the Republic of Artsakh. However, given the existing challenges and limited opportunities, in our opinion, the Russian proposals are more in line with the minimum criteria that allow ensure the security of Artsakh and do not cast doubt on its future," Harutyunyan said.
At the same time, he expressed hope that as a result of the trilateral summit to be held on October 31, it will be possible to consolidate the elements relating to the fate of Artsakh. "First of all, we are talking about the indefinite extension of the mission of the Russian peacekeeping forces stationed in Artsakh. Their presence in Artsakh is of vital importance, since Russian peacekeepers bear a significant share of responsibility for the security of the Republic of Artsakh and its people since November 2020. The second key parameter is to preserve at least the current status of Artsakh," the President of Artsakh said.
At the same time, he noted that the speech of the President of the Russian Federation at the meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club inspires certain hopes that these goals are quite achievable. Harutyunyan emphasized that Artsakh expects that during the upcoming negotiations the vital interests of the Republic of Artsakh and, first of all, the inalienable right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination will be fully protected. "The international recognition of the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination and the results of the implementation of this right has no alternative. We are confident that by joint efforts we will be able to prevent the legitimation of the consequences of the illegal use of force against the Republic of Artsakh by Azerbaijan and its allies, thereby ensuring the conditions for a safe and prosperous future for our homeland and people," he summed up.
