ArmInfo. There is no any document on the negotiating table between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Speaker of the RA National Assembly Alen Simonyan stated this to journalists on October 26.
According to him, there are hundreds of proposals and opinions left over from the past, which are aimed at future initiatives, but there is no need to talk about discussions on any document. <There are visions of the Armenian side, which have been repeatedly stated, which include Baku's disrespectful attitude towards the sovereign territory of Armenia, militant rhetoric voicing from Azerbaijan. The borders of the Republic of Armenia are a "red line" for us, which we will never allow to be crossed, and, therefore, our partners must take this situation into account," the head of the Armenian parliament said.
Nevertheless, the speaker expressed hope that a peace treaty would be signed by the end of this year. At the same time, according to him, the issue of Armenia's territory of 29.8 thousand square kilometers is not subject to any discussion. <Azerbaijan must immediately leave all internationally recognized territories of Armenia, and during meetings with international partners this issue is constantly raised, since it is the most important one. The Republic of Armenia is attacked daily, and we are obliged to defend it. The same partners who assumed certain obligations regarding the security of the country had to fulfill them, but we, as a rule, hear various tales in response>, the speaker said, adding that that the territory of the republic itself is small, and no one is going to give up even 1 meter of our territory.
Simonyan noted that Armenia does not spoil relations with any country in the world. The country only wants justice to be shown towards it, and partners who have assumed obligations to ensure the security of the state must fulfill them. "There are no emotions in this issue, there are obligations, and we will be consistent in solving this problem. Otherwise, we will try to protect the lives of our children and our borders at all platforms," Simonyan emphasized.
The speaker expressed doubt that Russia is interested in changing the political course of the Armenian authorities, since official Yerevan has not taken any steps in this direction. "Immediately after the Velvet Revolution, we declared our commitment to maintaining the CSTO and the Russian military base in Armenia, but de facto we see that it was not Armenia that withdrew from the CSTO, but the Organization itself withdrew from Armenia. If the Organization really left the country, it should have informed us about it, which would have made it possible to find other mechanisms to protect the borders of Armenia. Fortunately, both our strategic partner and the CSTO are already aware that there are no more ways for backtrack >, the NA President said.
He reminded that Russia considers Azerbaijan to be its ally as well. "To put it mildly, Baku frankly lies on this issue by all possible means. During meetings with their European partners, representatives of Azerbaijan accuse us of our pro-Russian orientation, while in Moscow the head of a neighboring country accuses us of a pro-Western position. This is the working method of Azerbaijan, in contrast to which we are open and honest with all partners, expressing the same position in Russia and Europe," Simonyan stressed.
