ArmInfo. The "Good Neighborly Peace Initiative" put forward to maintain peace in the South Caucasus region does not contradict or replace any other format of cooperation. Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili stated this on October 24 after a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The Georgian Prime Minister noted that the situation in the region and in the world was discussed at the meeting, taking into account the war in Ukraine.
"Today we had a very important meeting. We talked about many issues related to strong partnership and cooperation between our countries. We also considered the difficult situation in the world, current processes. Naturally, we touched on the situation in the region and everyone agrees that what is happening in Ukraine should be regulated through negotiations," Garibashvili said.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that in the face of rapidly changing and complex challenges in the region and the world, great importance is attached to peace and stability, which are key factors for the well-being of the South Caucasus and the peoples of the region as a whole.
"We also touched on the current situation in the region, the recent agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the start of a peaceful negotiation process. This, of course, gives us great hopes.
I would like to reiterate that Georgia, our government and I declare our full readiness to continue and support the peace policy that we started together. I also want to note that the above-mentioned peaceful neighborhood initiative does not contradict and does not replace any other format of cooperation, on the contrary, it will contribute to them, and I believe that together we will do many important things," Garibashvili said, according to Novosti Georgia.
Meanwhile, as Anadolu reports, Ilham Aliyev, in turn, announced his readiness to hold consultations between Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, if Yerevan approves this initiative.
Aliyev noted that his today's visit will give a new impetus to friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
According to Aliyev, strategic partnership relations with Georgia have risen to the level of an alliance, and the countries are actively cooperating in many areas.
"Azerbaijan and Georgia constantly support each other within the framework of international organizations. Many important projects implemented in a bilateral format are of particular importance not only for our countries, but also for the region, all of Europe," Aliyev said.
According to Aliyev, security issues in the region were also discussed during the talks with Garibashvili.
The Azerbaijani leader noted that he had informed the Prime Minister of Georgia about the peace talks with Armenia.
"Today, during the conversation, we exchanged views on the start of consultations between Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. If the Armenian side is ready for this, we are also ready," Aliyev stressed.
Aliyev expressed hope that the Armenian side would demonstrate political will and sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan on "the basis of fundamental principles" recognized by the international community.
"If this happens, peace will come to the South Caucasus. At the same time, there will be opportunities for cooperation," Aliyev stressed.
The President of Azerbaijan also stressed that exports will be increased via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline next year.
"Along with this, we want to use the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline, which is currently not in operation," the head of state stressed.
According to Aliyev, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Georgia for 9 months of this year is approaching $1 billion.
"Of course, the projects implemented through Azerbaijan's investments further strengthen our cooperation. Azerbaijan has invested more than $3 billion in Georgia. And these are mutually beneficial investments, as they meet the interests of both sides," Aliyev said.
