ArmInfo. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu criticized the OSCE decision to send a needs assessment mission to Armenia.
Speaking on Friday in Mersin province, the head of Turkish diplomacy assured that the OSCE positions itself as a "center of insoluble problems", and the latest decision on Armenia "contradicts the requirements and mandate of the organization itself."
"An attempt to impose one's position and the formation of a status quo is unacceptable," Cavusoglu stressed. In this vein, he traditionally started the old song about the ineffectiveness of the mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is mandated to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "For many years, they only dragged out the process. And today, by sending a mission or observers, they try to ignore Azerbaijan's position. There is a desire to support Armenia," Cavusoglu stressed.
According to him, there is no special sincerity in the EU either. "The European Union does not comply with the terms of the agreements," the Turkish minister stated, who, however, did not reveal the brackets about which agreements they are talking about.
At the same time, Cavusoglu noted that any positive development in the dialogue between Baku and Yerevan has a positive impact on the negotiations between Turkey and Armenia. "Europe itself will ultimately benefit the most," he said, Anadolu reports.
As ArmInfo previously reported, at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the OSCE will send a needs assessment team to the country, which will be in the country from October 21-27.
The purpose of the visit is to assess the situation in some border areas on the basis of the mandate and experience of the OSCE within its comprehensive security concept.
The technical team composed of international experts and representatives of the OSCE Secretariat will visit areas along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and hold on-site consultations with relevant national and local parties, as well as international partners.
