ArmInfo. The delegation of the EU Technical Assessment Mission visited the border communities of the Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia, which suffered from the Azerbaijani aggression.
According to Gegharkunik region governor's office, at the meeting with the members of the Mission, Karen Sargsyan presented to them the consequences of the Azerbaijani aggression in the settlements of Gegharkunik region on September 13-14, 2022.
According to the head of EU technical assessment mission, they have two goals: to monitor how both sides maintain the ceasefire regime and to support the activities of the border commissions. "This is a civilian mission, and its purpose is to monitor and regularly submit relevant reports related to this situation. We mutually expressed the hope that our cooperation with the state administration, local governments and the military will provide a positive result. The mission will include up to 40 experts for a period of two months," the governor said.
After that, the commander of the second army corps of the RA Armed Forces, Colonel Vahram Grigoryan, presented information on the situation resulted from the Azerbaijani aggression, emphasizing the importance of the EU mission, and noting that it will provide an opportunity to objectively assess cases of ceasefire violations. During the meeting, technical and organizational issues of the activities of the EU mission were also discussed.
Then, the delegation visited the border settlements of the Vardenis community.
The civil mission visited the border zones of Tretuk and Kutakan, which suffered as a result of the aggression.
Then, the mission was provided with information about 12 affected settlements of the Chambarak and Vardenis consolidated communities, of which the settlements of Sotk and Kut were heavily damaged. In particular, 148 houses in Sotk and 12 in Kut, two more houses in Verin Shorzha were damaged. "Two schools, one kindergarten, administrative buildings of the settlements, a library and a medical center were also damaged. We have 8 houses damaged by shelling that need to be fully restored. Civilian infrastructure has also suffered, agricultural work has become risky by about 40 percent," Sargsyan said.
Colonel Grigoryan presented a report on the consequences of the aggression of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on May 12, 2021 and September 13, 2022 to the members of the EU delegation on the spot.
Observations were made using measuring instruments. Members of the delegation assured that they would conduct in-depth studies and submit regular reports.
