ArmInfo. The political statements of the allied countries are important to Armenia against the background of Azerbaijan's aggression against the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this on October 18 at a joint press conference with Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.
He stated this in response to a question whether the issue of sending a CSTO mission to the Armenian- Azerbaijani border is being considered, as previously stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Mirzoyan confirmed that the issue is being discussed, but there is no decision yet.
"As for the possibility of sending a CSTO mission, as you know, we turned to the organization. It was decided to send a monitoring mission to collect facts, which has already been. Representatives of the Organization prepared a report based on the data collected. It is presented to all members of the Organization. The Secretariat is now also put into circulation a draft decision based on this report. During the oral negotiations, we tried to understand when the meeting of the CSTO Council at the highest level will be held, at which the heads of state will be able to discuss, including the issue of sending a mission. We are now at this stage. There are discussions, but no solutions," the minister said.
In this vein, Mirzoyan pointed out the importance of the political statements of the allied countries. "First of all, we need to understand how familiar the organization is with the real situation - this is aggression against Armenia and invasion of its sovereign territories," the Armenian Foreign Minister summed up.
On October 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at a meeting with Mirzoyan in Astana, said that the CSTO was ready to send its observers to Armenia, this requires a decision of the Collective Security Council.
"Immediately after Armenia asked to convene an extraordinary CSTO summit, it took place, it was decided to send the CSTO Secretary General, the head of the Joint Staff to Armenia. They traveled there, brought recommendations, we had those recommendations for more than a month. According to them, an observation mission of CSTO observers should be sent to the territory of Armenia, on the border with Azerbaijan," Lavrov said at the talks with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan.
"The only thing that is required is the decision of the Collective Security Council, which should be convened by the CSTO chairman. It is now the Republic of Armenia, so as soon as you have time, we will be ready to formally approve such a mission, and it will be able to start its work," added the Russian minister.
