
ArmInfo. The delegation of the Swiss parliament visited the resort town of Jermuk and got acquainted with the consequences of the large-scale aggression of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces unleashed against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia on September 13-15.
According to the Press Service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, the members of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation, who paid a four-day working visit to Armenia, visited Jermuk on October 16, which was shelled by the Azerbaijani military on September 13. The Azerbaijanis, using weapons of various calibers and ranges, damaged the infrastructure of the resort city. The Jermuk sanatorium, guest houses, roads were damaged. The Kechut cemetery was also attacked in order to exert psychological pressure on the local population. The enemy also used cluster bombs prohibited by international conventions. The head of the delegation, member of the Switzerland-Armenia Friendship Group Stefan Muller- Altermatt noted that he pained at everything that the Azerbaijanis have done in Jermuk.
"They used this peaceful place to sow terror among people. It's terrible for me to see all this," the MP said. In turn, Member of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation Michel Mater noted in this regard that the Geneva City Council adopted a resolution condemning the September aggression of Azerbaijan.
"This is the first level. Now we must move forward, to the Federal Assembly. This is important. This applies not only to Switzerland, but to the whole of Europe, because we have the same values: democracy, human rights and international law," Mater said.
As a result of enemy aggression, 36 settlements were affected in general, including the communities of Goris, Sisian, Kapan, Jermuk, Vardenis, Tegh, Geghamasar, resulting in complete or partial burnt of 192 residential buildings, 3 hotels, 2 schools, 1 medical institution, 1 banquet, 4 barns. 7 energy infrastructures, 5 water supply infrastructures, 3 gas pipelines, 1 bridge, 2 highways, 1 street were damaged. 2 ambulances, 4 private cars were hit. 4 civilians were killed, six more were injured, one person was missing. About one thousand children are deprived of the opportunity to attend educational institutions. More than 7,000 citizens were evacuated from their homes. Moreover, 207 servicemen died or went missing, 20 were captured.
