ArmInfo. The Russian Foreign Ministry considers the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron that Russia is allegedly using the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to destabilize the South Caucasus as flagrant and absolutely unacceptable. This is stated in the comments of official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in connection with the statements of the French leader.
It should be recalled that French President Emmanuel Macron on air France 2, referring to the September aggression of Azerbaijan, accused Russia of using the conflict in favor of Azerbaijan. "Russia used this conflict, which dated back several centuries and played Azerbaijan's game with Turkish complicity and came back to weaken Armenia which was once a country it was close to. You see what's happening? It's an effort by Russia to destabilise. It wants to create disorder in the Caucasus to destabilise all of us," Macron emphasized.
"Such attacks are consistent with the anti-Russian line of the West to demonize Russia and are evidence of attempts to transfer the logic of confrontation from Ukraine to other parts of the post-Soviet space, including the South Caucasus. The absurd fabrications of the President of France shows the disinterest of Paris in establishing a lasting peace in the region and call into question the ability of his country to play a constructive role there>, the Russian Foreign Ministry believes. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that, unlike France, "which even during periods of exacerbation between Baku and Yerevan limited itself to standard calls for peace, Russia in practical terms contributed to the settlement of the conflict."
"Our country made a decisive contribution to the signing of the tripartite statement of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia on November 9, 2020, which put an end to the bloodshed. The peacekeeping contingent deployed in accordance with the mentioned agreement remains the guarantor of security in the region. Peacekeepers effectively prevent incidents in their area of responsibility, help establish peaceful life - deliver humanitarian aid, restore infrastructure. With their assistance, 53,000 refugees returned their homes, more than 2,000 bodies were handed over, a total of 146 detainees were returned, over 25,000 explosive objects were defused," Zakharova recalled.
She stressed that it was Russia that launched work on the comprehensive normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan. With Russian participation, active efforts continue to promote the peace agenda based on the statements of the leaders of the three countries on November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021. In particular, steps are being taken to unblock all economic and transport ties in the South Caucasus, to delimit the Armenian- the Azerbaijani border, the conclusion of a peace treaty, the establishment of a dialogue between the public and experts. "Paris's attempts to drive a wedge into Russia's relations with our friends Azerbaijan and Armenia, , with which Russia is united by long-term and multifaceted ties, are doomed to failure and will only lead to further depreciation of France's authority in the region," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a comment.
