ArmInfo.Aliyev is wrong if he thinks that the indigenous Armenians of Artsakh have another place to live in besides Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, Artsakh State Minister, has stated in response to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's statement that the Artsakh Armenians that will refuse to adopt Azerbaijan's citizenship will have to leave Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Despite the hardships, challenges and threats we will continue out struggle for a free, independent and safe life in our Homeland.
"There is no alternative to the Artsakh people's right to self-determination, and the use of force or threat of force is inadmissible to ensure the supremacy of territorial integrity," Mr Beglaryan wrote in a Telegram post.
In his latest interview with Azerbaijani TV channels in Prague, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said: "Armenians living in Karabakh are our citizens and we are not going to discuss their fate and future life with any country, including Armenia. This is our internal matter. "As to the life of the Armenian population in Karabakh, it is a separate story. We plan to intensify consultations within our domestic political bloc and continue informal contacts with representatives of the Armenian population in Karabakh. I should say such contacts have taken place for a certain period, and I think the population still living in the Russian peacekeepers' responsibility zone is fully aware of the fact they have no way but integration into Azerbaijani society. Those opting for living as citizens of Azerbaijan will not feel regret, I am sure. If anyone does not think it is good for them for some reasons, they can choose another place to live in." Later, Eduard Aghajanyan., Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Parliament of Armenia, stated that Armenia has no potential to ensure the Artsakh people's rights, freedom and security. He noted that the process of signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan is separate from the Karabakh problem, which is a "positive tendency." According to him, a "bilaterally acceptable solution should be found to the Karabakh problem," and it is "a pretext for Azerbaijan's encroachments on Armenia." "Regrettably, in the aftermath of the 44-day war, Armenia has no potential to ensure the Artsakh people's rights, freedom and security," he said.
